Loneliness is a problem that does not only affect the elderly. It is a situation in which everyone can find themselves at a certain moment. Team Loneliness' research aims to gather more information on the prevalence, etiology and impact of loneliness.
In contrast to what many people might think, loneliness is in most cases not a result of too little social contacts or activities. It is rather a consequence of negative thoughts, in which people have unrealistic expectations, people (obsessively) compare themselves with others or in which they feel insecure about the contacts they already have. These negative thoughts normally evolve during puberty and therefore our project focusses on preventing loneliness by giving interactive masterclasses on this topic at high schools in Nijmegen.
The expectation is that this project will be implemented in February 2021.
